Main Line Backed Up and a Cable Did Not Fix It
A line that was snaked last month and is backing up again is the classic case for hydro jetting. The cable made a channel through the clog, but the grease and scale around it stayed. Call the 24/7 line, stop running water, and tell us what was done before.
While you wait, keep showers, the washer and the dishwasher off. After-hours calls are handled the same way as daytime ones, and we can usually tell on the phone whether jetting or a simpler clearing is the right first move.
How a Jetting Visit Goes
Find a way in
We need a cleanout, a pulled toilet or a roof vent as an entry point. A cleanout near the house or behind the sidewalk is ideal because it lets us feed the hose straight into the lateral.
Look first
For a line with a history of trouble, a quick camera pass shows whether the pipe is intact. Jetting a collapsed or badly cracked pipe is a bad idea, because the water can wash out the soil around a broken joint.
Cut in with a nozzle
The hose carries a nozzle with jets pointed back along the pipe. Water pressure drives the hose forward and the jets scour the walls. We choose the nozzle by pipe size and by what we expect to find.
Work back out
We pull the hose back slowly so the jets clean the wall on the way out. A cleaning pass in a heavily coated line often takes several runs.
Verify with the camera
A second camera pass confirms the pipe is clear, and shows anything the jetting exposed, like an offset joint or a root entry that needs repair.
What Hydro Jetting Clears Best
Grease and sludge
Kitchen branches and restaurant lines collect fat that hardens into a ring. Jetting breaks it down and flushes it out of the pipe.
Mineral scale
Hard deposits narrow older pipe over years. Pressure and the right nozzle can scour off much of it, though we will not promise a pipe back to new.
Fine roots
Hair roots that enter a joint can be cut and flushed. Thick roots may need a cutting head first, and the entry still needs repair.
Soap scum and lint
Laundry and shower lines gradually fur up. A single jetting pass often resets them.
Silt and debris
Floor and yard drains hold dirt that sits in the line. Water moves it out where a cable would only push it around.
Repeat clogs
When a line clogs every few months with no obvious cause, the cause is often a coated wall. Jetting treats it.
Local Water and Soap Scum in Union City
Alameda County Water District (ACWD) reports hardness for the blended supply serving Union City at 120 to 160 ppm as calcium carbonate, with an average of 138 (about 8 grains per gallon). Hard water makes soap curds that cling to drain walls, so tub, shower and laundry lines can narrow over time.
If your slow drains are in those rooms and a cable keeps giving only short relief, jetting is worth asking about. Check your ACWD water quality report for the current numbers.
Jetting is a cleaning method, not a repair, and the pipe it cleans must meet the California Plumbing Code, which is based on the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) to stay serviceable. If the camera shows damage, a repair that follows that standard is the right next step, not repeated jetting.

Ask whether jetting fits your line
Describe the clog history and the pipe, and a plumber will tell you if jetting is right or if a camera should come first.
What Affects the Cost of Jetting
When We Will Not Jet a Line
Jetting is powerful, and it is not for every pipe. A cracked clay line, a collapsed section or an old fiber pipe can be damaged by high pressure, and a belly full of standing water will not drain no matter how clean the pipe is. In those cases a camera and a repair plan come before any cleaning.
Roots are a similar case. We can cut and flush them, but the gap they entered through stays open. If the same line fills with roots again and again, the lasting fix is sewer line repair, not a yearly clearing.
For a one-time plug in a single fixture, a drain machine is usually enough, see drain cleaning. We also serve Fremont and nearby towns, including Fremont.
Hydro Jetting Questions
Yes. The 24/7 line is answered through nights, weekends and holidays. If your main line is packed with grease or roots and sewage is backing into the house, call and a plumber will tell you whether jetting is the right first step. Ask about same-day service when you call.
It uses a hose with a nozzle that sprays high-pressure water along the pipe, scouring the wall as it pulls back. It cleans the full diameter of the pipe, where a cable usually opens only a channel.
It depends on the pipe. Sound cast iron, plastic and clay can often be jetted at the right pressure. A cracked, collapsed or severely corroded pipe may not survive it, which is why we look with a camera first.
No. It removes the root mass from inside the pipe, but the opening the roots came through remains. Roots usually return, so a repeating root problem points to repair or lining.
A cable cuts or pulls a clog out. A jetter washes the pipe wall clean. Snaking is quicker for simple clogs, and jetting is better for grease, scale and roots.
Someone should be there to show us the cleanout and confirm which fixtures are affected. We also ask you to keep water off while we work.
